is located in the Pyrenees Mountains nestled between France and
Spain. Andorra itself is an independent state which only became
a democratic country in 1993. The capital city of Andorra is Andorra
la Vella which means "Old Andorra or Andorra the Old".
The country makes it's money by being a great tourist destination and a "Tax Haven" and as such the opportunity for duty-free shopping abounds. Much of the tourist trade centers around the excellent mountain skiing however Andorra is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year and Andorra la Vella is no exception, with it's cobbled streets and 16th century architecture, you will have plenty to see and do. The oldest building of interest is the Santa Coloma Church dating from as far back as the 900's. Another church of historical interest is the Church of Sant Esteve displaying 13th century paintings. For those more intersted in being pampered one should visit the Caldea as it's one of Europes larges Spa's offering many different treatments to your ailments. At night the illuminations of the Rec del Sola and Rec de l'Obac are recommended if you would enjoy a stroll to the bars and restaurants nearby. The mountains draw you into a panoramic, incredibly picturesque, picture postcard view of the world with the snow-capped tips and the babbling streams one can enjoy a moment with nature before heading for the slopes. The adrenaline of skiing in Andorra should not be missed as they are some of the best slopes in the world. Professional instructors are at hand for the beginner. Snowboarding is also a big hit in Andorra and should be tried although it's not for the faint-hearted. You
